Gregg Johnson recently defended a police detective in a federal civil rights action arising out of a fatal shooting during a street encounter. Prior to trial, Mr. Johnson successfully brought a motion dismissing all claims against one of the two police detectives present. Thereafter, Mr. Johnson successfully defended the interests of the detective involved in the shooting during an August 2022 jury trial which resulted in a hung jury. Mr. Johnson’s qualified immunity Petition to the U.S. Supreme Court – which was supported by an amicus contributor – was not granted in the Fall of 2022.
